Niya i actually really like this! I have a thing for swirls :o)
But as for the critique:
Describe- The composition is very organic. There are 2 large/thick shapes at the top that start to swirl around eachother as they move to the right of the page. At the bottom of the composition there is a light single swirl that breaks through an dark organic shape. Between both swirls is a medium-tone circle inside a lighter circle. All the shapes flow into eachother very well, and the tones of each shape work together. They are evenly spread out throughout the piece so it balances well.
Interpret- I think Niya was feeling very relaxed and happy when she was drawing this. There are no rough or jagged edges that would suggest frustration or anger. The composition is just very soothing.
Evaluate- Overall, I like this piece. Everything works well together, and it makes your eye travel throughout the page. As for the assignment, I think Niya was very successful. She chose flat values that work well together, and are balanced with lights and darks throughout the composition.
I consider myself a multi-media artist and I work in a realm in which I am always trying to translate things that have to do with other people and interactions with them just as they are. Working with mainly video, and print processes such as screen printing, and lithography, I try to provoke the viewer to empathize about self reflection, and the subconscious, as well as other's. In the beginning I was creating interviews but recently my videos have become more fluid, yet narrative still surrounding the idea of the subconscious based in a dreamlike state. My prints are also developing around that very same theme, as well as just the idea of having ideas. Whatever flows into my conscious state of mind I tend to latch onto and explore as I deal with my own self reflection, and issues I face every day.
